What is auto enrolment?

How does it apply to you?

In the past, employees had to choose to join a workplace scheme. However, the introduction of auto enrolment means that all employers of eligible employees must offer a workplace pension. All eligible employees are now automatically enrolled into their employer’s scheme, and will only be opted out if they specifically request to do so.

How long has it been in place for?

Auto enrolment has been incorporated by all employers in the UK since 2018.

Eligible employees

• are aged between 22 and state pension age;
• earn more than a minimum amount each year, and
• work in the UK.
